Where is the Ark?

Genesis 8: 4. And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

The mountains of Ararat are in Turkey. This is the location of Mt Ararat. There are three main proposed locations.

1. Mount Cudi.
2. Mount Ararat.
3. Durupinar.

Mount Cudi.

This mountain is approximately 250 miles southwest of Ararat and about 7000 feet high. According to some ancient texts, this is the landing site for Noah's Ark and it is still within the "mountains of Ararat" region. It lacks any Ark remains, but it has a ruined brick structure on its top. Its low altitude and easy accessibility are good for getting animals off the Ark. It would be just high enough to be completely covered by the Flood.

Positives: Low altitude, and easy accessibility. It also has some historical backing.
Negatives: No Ark remains, making it difficult to test.
Recommendations: The top of Mount Cudi should be examined for evidence that the Ark was there.

 Durupinar

This is the site of a Boat shaped mound named after Turkish Captain Durupinar, who identified the formation in a Turkish Air Force aerial photo, while on a NATO mapping mission in 1959. It is located about 18 miles south of Greater Mount Ararat and at an elevation approximately 6,300 feet above sea level. It is the exact size of the ark in royal cubits.

This site was popularized by the late Ron Wyatt. The area contains several large stones with hole drilled trough them. It is claimed that they are drogue anchor stones. There is no mention of such stones with the Ark in the Bible or any of the 500 flood legions that exists.

Now radar scans do seem to show evidence of a ship's structure. What looks like rivet heads have been found along with petrified laminated wood. Tests proved it to be petrified wood.

There are similar looking formations all over the area that are the result of lava and mud flows.

Positives: The site has produced positive archeological results. It is easily accessible, making this the most testable Ark site.
Negatives: There are similar looking formations in the area.
Recommendations: The other boat shaped formations need to be studied and compared the one claimed to be the Ark.

Mount Ararat.

Located in Eastern, Turkey Mount Ararat is a volcanic mountain with a peek elevation of 16,945 feet. (5,165 meters) This is a promising site because of the object often referred to as the Ararat Anomaly. The earliest, know picture was taken in 1949 and released to Porcher Tayloron in 1995, after he requested the CIA photos, under the Freedom of Information Act. More recent pictures have been released since.

The anomaly is a rectangular object the size of the Ark as described in Genesis. There are more than three dozen eyewitness accounts, some up close. They are all in the same general location, size and description. Local guides do not allow pictures to be taken of the Ark but the available evidence strongly suggests that this is the ark.

The main problem with this site is that between altitudes of 14,000-17,000 feet is difficult Terrain, not a place you would expect to release a bunch of animals. However Mount Ararat probably gained most of its height since the Flood. There has been much post Flood geologic activity and Ararat seems too have been pushed up by volcanic activity. In fact the upper elevation roughness suggests post flood activity. This would put the Ark in a more accessible location just after Flood.

Positives: The existence of the Ararat Anomaly is well documented. The descriptions match what would be expected of the Ark. It is a testable site.
Negatives: The Ararat Anomaly is difficult to reach. The volcanic nature of Mount Ararat would tend to reduce the survivability of the Ark.
Recommendations:  The Ararat Anomaly needs to be studied on site in sufficient detail to try to settle its identity.

At this time there are three possible sites where Ark could have landed. More research needs to be done to determine which one it is. The best way for this to be done would be by one research team to investigate all three sites. Such a team should consist of proponents of all three sites and at least one neutral researcher.
